Comments : I was searching for information on the typical lifespan of an Akita...I had been under the impression that 8-10 was more typical...but there seems to be a wide variation. I have a puppy mill akita female that I've had since I bought her at a pet store at 8 weeks. She is 12.5 years (13 in December). She has arthritis and is on Deramax, and her eyesight is failing, but her heart is going strong, no kidney issues, and still gets spunky from time to time. I live in HOT Texas, so she spends all of her time indoors with me and her bud, Luke (10 year old yellow lab). I guess I'd like to know what your experience is with typical lifespans for this beautiful breed....I think Mason looks gorgeous!!! My next Akita will be a big headed male!!

Comments : We have a 9 months old Akita lady and win addition e'd like to have a male pubby. We love our dogs' temperament and behaviour - very intelligent (at times she's tricking me or my husband). obedient with bouts of stubberness, loyal, loving and easy to look after. The only thing is we need to be very careful in particular with strange children and other dogs. However, she gets on fine with our cat (this took 4 years hard work, but we've got there)
